Have you ever lain awake at night and wondered, how come we have few kid celebs?
If your answer is no, then you’re not me. Seriously, can you name 10 Nigerian kid celebs right now? Of course, you can’t.
But you can name close to that number of famous children in the USA, right? That’s because they have many children who are famous actors, musicians, swimmers etc.
You might be wondering why Nigeria lacks famous children aka kid celebs. Here are a few reasons why:
For many Naija parents, school is one of the most important things in life. Even though it has been proven one can be a dropout and still be a success. Naija parents don’t want to hear that one. You think your Naija parents want to hear that you will leave school to pursue music at 15? It’s like you want your buttons to be reset with a slap ba??
2. Parental Approval
Many parents do not approve of careers such as modelling, acting, singing etc. After they have planned for you to become a doctor, you now want to do music? Lol, in what universe?
3. No Money To Spare
With how hard the country is, do you think parents want to spend money on piano or dance lessons? Naija parents can hire a home tutor to ensure you pass your exams but a talent tutor is definitely out of the question.
4. Bad public perception
The public perception of those in the limelight especially musicians and movie stars is usually not good. Our society is built on “what will people say” and many people go out of their way to stick to the status quo. So, joining a group that rocks the boat is out of the question. Abi, you want to disgrace your parents?
Do you agree?
