The Senate has now extended the validity of results from the JAMB exams for up to three years. The Senate on Thursday 13th of October, extended the validity of results of the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board by up to three years.
What does this mean?
In the past, a JAMB result used to be valid for just a year. So for example, if you write the exams in say 2016, and you failed to gain admission in 2016, the results become invalid and you’d have to take it again in 2017.
With this new law, if a candidate passes the 2017 examinations, the result would be valid for up till 2020. This will save a lot of money in yearly examination registration fees, and drastically reduce the revenue generated by the examination board.
For example, in 2016 alone, 1,452,739 candidates applied to get into Universities, with each person paying a registration fee of N4,500. That is over 6.5 billion in yearly revenue from registrations alone.
Since a significant number of the people taking the examinations are re-sitting candidates, this would mean a drastic drop in revenue generated for the board.
