On 20 August 2016, a tweet from the handle @ChairmanNHRC (Chairman National Human Rights Commission) disclosed that a blogger/journalist who was opposed to the Bauchi State government was arrested for ‘Cyber Stalking’.
A team of anti-riot policemen from the elite squadron guarding Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State arrested blogger Emmanuel Ojo at the premises of a Magistrate Court.
Ojo was arrested in September over a post he made alleging that that the wife of the governor was arrested in the UK for money laundering.
The arrest of Mr. Ojo was carried out the first time by the Chief Security Officer to the governor. Following an outcry by other bloggers and human rights groups, Ojo was arraigned before magistrate court but was promptly granted bail, contrary to the expectation of prosecutors assembled by the governor.
The case was adjourned to today, and Ojo had come to court to continue his defense against what his friends termed a ‘malicious trial.’

A blogger, Musa Babale Azare, has been arrested by policemen in Abuja, allegedly for criticising Bauchi state governor, Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar.
Witnesses said the policemen, who picked Musa up at Wuse Zone 7 drove him to an unkonown destination in a police car with registration number YDB217AA.
Activists have set up the hash tag #FreeMusaAzareNow to demand for the blogger’s release.
This is coming about two weeks after a popular blogger, Abubakar Sadiq was arrested by the Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC)
Suspected State Security Service operatives on Tuesday arrested a blogger in Akwa Ibom State, in what activists see as as the latest in a string of crackdowns against free speech online.
Emenike Iroegbu, who publishes Abia Facts Newspaper, was arrested in front of his family by men suspected to be attached to the SSS field office in Uyo, the Abia State capital, his wife, Ekaette, told PREMIUM TIMES.
Mrs. Iroegbu said the officials arrived at about 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday and carried out a search of their apartment.
“They took my husband’s laptops and phones and also seized my two phones as well,” Mrs. Iroegbu said. “They didn’t even enter quietly.”
Mrs. Iroegbu said the officials, numbering three, came in a black SUV which they used to whisk her husband away.
“I was unable to mark down the number plate,” Mrs. Iroegbu said. “I was busy begging them to kindly release one of my phones so I could at least be able to stay in touch.”
News of Mr. Iroegbu’s arrest lit up the social media on Wednesday morning, coming barely a month after Abubakar Usman, a pro-government blogger was arrested in Abuja in similar circumstances.
Nwandu, was on Thursday arraigned by the police for allegedly posting on his Facebook page the story published by Oloketuyi, regarding the Managing Director of Fidelity Bank Plc, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo.
CKN, who was arrested on Tuesday, was brought before the court yesterday on a two-count charge. I appeared in court today. “I have been remanded in IkoyinPrison Custody by the Federal High Court, Ikoyi till Monday when my bail application will be heard,” he stated.
