On 20 August 2016, a tweet from the handle @ChairmanNHRC (Chairman National Human Rights Commission) disclosed that a blogger/journalist who was opposed to the Bauchi State government was arrested for ‘Cyber Stalking’.

It added that he was “abducted” by people in “Police uniforms” from “33, Lome Street, Zone 7, Abuja”.

His arrest came after he criticized the Bauchi State governor on Social media.

2. Emmanuel Ojo

A team of anti-riot policemen from the elite squadron guarding Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State arrested blogger Emmanuel Ojo at the premises of a Magistrate Court.

Ojo was arrested in September over a post he made alleging that that the wife of the governor was arrested in the UK for money laundering.

The arrest of Mr. Ojo was carried out the first time by the Chief Security Officer to the governor. Following an outcry by other bloggers and human rights groups, Ojo was arraigned before magistrate court but was promptly granted bail, contrary to the expectation of prosecutors assembled by the governor.

The case was adjourned to today, and Ojo had come to court to continue his defense against what his friends termed a ‘malicious trial.’

3. Desmond Ike Chima


Blogger Desmond Ike Chima was arrested by the Federal Criminal Investigation Department for claiming and writing that the Managing Director of UBA, Phillip Oduoza was having an affair with Nollywood star actress Genevieve Nnaji.

Chima of and in his headline wrote “Randy UBA MD, Phillips Oduoza In Adultery Mess, Romances Star Actress, Genevieve Nnaji” which is said to have landed him in trouble.

Last Month blogger Saporu was arrested by Sars officially tagging him a fraudster and yahoo boy after he launched his Brand New Camry Muscle 2009.

 5. Abubakar Sidiq Usman

Popular blogger and owner of , Abubakar Sidiq Usman, was arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
It is gathered that the EFCC, stormed Abubakar’s residence in Abuja this morning brandishing guns and a search warrant that allowed them search all through his apartment before eventually whisking him away to their headquarters, without giving him a reason for his arrest.

Online sources say he was arrested in front of his family and little kids.

6. Emeh James Anyalekwa

Emeh James Anyalekwa who happens to be the Editor in Chief of popular news blog – Igbere TV has been reportedly arrested by men of the Directorate of State Security (DSS).
Abia Facts Newspaper gathered that Seven men in two Hilux Jeeps early this morning at about 6.00am stormed his Uyo residence and whisked him away in the presence of his wife and little daughter without disclosing the reason for his arrest and their destination.
The men took away his Laptops, his phones, his wife’s phones and every digital device in sight after ransacking their apartment.

 7. Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar

Policemen arrest Blogger in Abuja for criticising governor
A Case Was Reported  that another popular blogger who was arrested for criticizing Bauchi state governor, Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar.

A blogger, Musa Babale Azare, has been arrested by policemen in Abuja, allegedly for criticising Bauchi state governor, Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar.

Witnesses said the policemen, who picked Musa up at Wuse Zone 7 drove him to an unkonown destination in a police car with registration number YDB217AA.

Activists have set up the hash tag #FreeMusaAzareNow to demand for the blogger’s release.

This is coming about two weeks after a popular blogger, Abubakar Sadiq was arrested by the Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC)

 8. Emenike Iroegbu

Suspected State Security Service operatives on Tuesday arrested a blogger in Akwa Ibom State, in what activists see as as the latest in a string of crackdowns against free speech online.

Emenike Iroegbu, who publishes Abia Facts Newspaper, was arrested in front of his family by men suspected to be attached to the SSS field office in Uyo, the Abia State capital, his wife, Ekaette, told PREMIUM TIMES.

Mrs. Iroegbu said the officials arrived at about 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday and carried out a search of their apartment.

“They took my husband’s laptops and phones and also seized my two phones as well,” Mrs. Iroegbu said. “They didn’t even enter quietly.”

Mrs. Iroegbu said the officials, numbering three, came in a black SUV which they used to whisk her husband away.

“I was unable to mark down the number plate,” Mrs. Iroegbu said. “I was busy begging them to kindly release one of my phones so I could at least be able to stay in touch.”

News of Mr. Iroegbu’s arrest lit up the social media on Wednesday morning, coming barely a month after Abubakar Usman, a pro-government blogger was arrested in Abuja in similar circumstances.

9. Jamil Mabai

THE police arrested Blogger, Jamil Mabai for criticising the purchase of 3000 coffins for distribution to mosques by the state governor, Aminu Masari.
Mabai had criticised the rationale behind the purchase of 3000 coffins at N40,000 each when the governor is yet to pay outstanding salary to civil servants in the State.
He wondered whether the governor wants the people of the State to die with the purchase of the coffins.
Justifying his arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Katsina State, Usman Abdulahi said the blogger was detained for posting that the government bought the coffins because it wanted people to die.
He said: “The state government complained that Jamil wrote that it had bought 3,000 coffins and distributed to mosques and may be it wanted Katsina people to die.
“Any reasonable person will ask one or two questions. This is why we had to invite him to assist the police.”

10. Chris Kehinde Uwandu

Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered that a blogger, Chris Kehinde Uwandu, famously known as CKN, be remanded in prison custody over publication of false story about a top banker. His arrest is coming few days after another popular blogger, Seun Oloketuyi was detained for similar offense.

Nwandu, was on Thursday arraigned by the police for allegedly posting on his Facebook page the story published by Oloketuyi, regarding the Managing Director of Fidelity Bank Plc, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo.

CKN, who was arrested on Tuesday, was brought before the court yesterday on a two-count charge. However, in a short message service (sms) yesterday to his colleagues, Nwandu said he was arrested on Tuesday by police personnel and detained till Thursday morning (yesterday) when he was arraigned before a Federal High Court, sitting in Ikoyi. “I have been in Police detention since Tuesday for a story I posted on Facebook, written by Seun Oloketuyi on MD of Fidelity Bank Plc.

I appeared in court today. “I have been remanded in IkoyinPrison Custody by the Federal High Court, Ikoyi till Monday when my bail application will be heard,” he stated.

11. Chukwuebuka Isidore Adieme,

Chukwuebuka Isidore Adieme, an entertainment blogger, who works with Ghost Mood Entertainment based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. was shot by Officers of the Nigerian Police.
The news about his death came from a reliable source to our doorstep at about 3pm today, 21st September, 2016.
According to sources, he was shot by the police when he tried to evade their sight somewhere around Azikiwe, mile 2 diobu Port Harcourt where he was seen smoking with a group of friends and they were surrounded by the cops.
